Scope

GB/T 34837-2017 is the English-translated version of 计时仪器零部件分类、名称和编号 石英手表机心.

China's national standard for classifying, naming and numbering the parts and assemblies of a quartz wristwatch movement. A watch movement contains upward of a hundred parts, most of them smaller than a grain of rice, and the industry that makes them is fragmented: movements from one maker are cased by another and serviced by a third, anywhere in the world, decades later. A watchmaker ordering a replacement part needs to name it unambiguously, and the names are not obvious - the same component has traditional French, Swiss German and English names that do not map cleanly onto one another. A numbering system solves what naming cannot. China is by a wide margin the largest producer of watch movements by volume, so having a national classification that lines up with the international conventions is what allows its output to be serviced through the same channels as everyone else's. The standard covers the quartz movement specifically, whose part set differs substantially from a mechanical one.

This standard specifies the classification of quartz watch movement parts, name and number. This standard applies to different structures and functions of quartz watch movement. 2 classification, name and number
