Scope

GB/T 34188-2017 is the English-translated version of 粘土质耐火砖.

China's national standard for fireclay refractory bricks. It specifies the terms and definitions, the classification, the shape and dimensions, the technical requirements, the test methods, the quality assessment procedure and the packaging, marking, transport, storage and quality certificate, and it applies to ordinary and dense fireclay bricks for high temperature furnaces. Fireclay brick is the workhorse refractory: alumina and silica in roughly equal measure, fired from natural clay, cheap, and stable to well above a thousand degrees. It lines blast furnace stoves, coke ovens, ladles, kilns, boilers and every other place where something hot has to be kept away from something structural. It is not the most refractory material available and it does not need to be. What it offers is adequate temperature resistance at a price that allows a furnace lining measured in thousands of tonnes, and a thermal expansion low enough that a lining survives being heated and cooled. The standard's technical requirements are accordingly about consistency more than about peak performance: a lining fails at its weakest brick.

1 Scope

China's national standard for fireclay refractory bricks. It specifies the terms and definitions, the classification, the shape and dimensions, the technical requirements, the test methods, the quality assessment procedure and the packaging, marking, transport, storage and quality certificate, and it applies to ordinary and dense fireclay bricks for high temperature furnaces. Fireclay brick is the workhorse refractory: alumina and silica in roughly equal measure, fired from natural clay, cheap, and stable to well above a thousand degrees.

This standard specifies the terms and definitions of clay refractory bricks, classification, shape and size, technical requirements, test methods, quality assessment procedures, Packaging, marking, transport, storage and quality certificate. This standard applies to high temperature furnace ordinary clay brick, dense clay brick, low creep clay brick and thermal shock clay brick.
