Scope
GB/T 3295-2025 is the English-translated version of 陶瓷制品镜向光泽度试验方法.
GB/T 3295-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering how bright a glaze looks — the gloss meter at 45° or 60° and the metrological class it has to hold, the reference gloss plate against which the reading is scaled, the black glass of fixed refractive index that defines 100 gloss units, the specimen surface and where on it to read, the calculation and the reporting. The same reading is used to follow how corrosion and wear dull a surface over time. It replaces GB/T 3295-1996, under the China Light Industry Federation. In force from 1 March 2026. Issued on 29 August 2025, it has been in force since 1 March 2026, replacing GB/T 3295-1996.

Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 3295-1996 "Test method for 45° mirror gloss of ceramic products". Compared with GB/T 3295-1996, In addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
— Changed terms and definitions (see Chapter 3, Chapter 2 of the 1996 edition);
— Changed the instrument device and clarified the technical parameters of the gloss meter and the gloss plate (see Chapter 5, 1996 edition Chapter 4);
— Changed the sample requirements and deleted the sample quantity requirements (see Chapter 6, Chapter 5 of the 1996 edition);
— Changed the test method description (see Chapter 7, Chapter 6 of the 1996 edition);
— Changed the calculation and result presentation (see Chapter 8, Chapter 7 of the 1996 edition);
— Changed the test report (see Chapter 9, Chapter 8 of the 1996 edition).

1 Scope
This document describes the test method for the specular gloss of ceramic products.
This document is applicable to the mirror gloss test of ceramic products, and is also suitable for evaluating the corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and other The impact of external factors on the surface of the product.
2 Normative references
GB/T 5000
JJG696
3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 5000 and JJG 696 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Specular gloss
Glossiness GS(theta) A relative measure of specular gloss.
Note. The reference standard is black glass with a refractive index nD = 1.567.Assuming that its surface is ideally polished, the surface will reflect the natural light beam.
And define the specular glossiness value at this time as 100.0 gloss units.
3.2 Glossiness plate
Ceramic plate or polished black glass plate with smooth, uniform surface and good wear resistance.
Note. Used in conjunction with a gloss meter.
4 Principles
Under the specified incident angle and beam conditions, the reflected light intensity of the ceramic surface in the mirror direction is compared with the glossiness plate in the mirror direction.
The gloss value of the sample is measured by the intensity of reflected light in the direction.
5 Instruments and Equipment
5.1 Glossmeter
The incident angle is 45° or 60°. The metrological performance of the instrument shall not be lower than Level 2 in JJG696.The optical principle and metrological performance requirements of the instrument are shown in Appendix A.
