Hand-held non-electric power tools are driven by means such as compressed air rather than mains electricity, and this is Part 12 of the series on their safety requirements. It applies to circular, oscillating and reciprocating saws, tools whose cutting action creates clear hazards for the operator. It adopts an international standard.

Its main users are manufacturers and designers of hand-held power tools, test laboratories, importers and distributors, industrial safety professionals, and buyers specifying tools for workshops and construction sites. A common safety standard helps suppliers demonstrate consistent practice and helps buyers compare products.

It is a recommended (GB/T) standard, so it is voluntary unless required by contract, a purchasing specification or another binding document. It was issued on 28 August 2026 and takes effect on 1 March 2027.
