Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

Drafting.

This document replaces GB/T 32734-2016 "Fenugreek". Compared with GB/T 32734-2016, the only changes are structural adjustments and editorial modifications.

In addition, the main technological changes are as follows.

---The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2016 edition);

---Added terms and definitions (see 3.1 and 3.2);

---Change "not moldy, free from pests" to "moldy, pest-infested" (see 4.3, 3.3 in the 2016 version);

---The test methods for impurities in fenugreek powder, foreign matter in whole fenugreek, and physicochemical indicators have been modified. The test methods for the cold water-soluble extract have also been modified.

Content requirements (see 4.3~4.5, 6.2, and 3.3~3.5, 5.2 in the 2016 edition);

---The sampling method has been changed (see Chapter 5, Chapter 4 in the 2016 edition);

---The requirements for "signature" have been changed (see 7.2, 6.2 in the 2016 version);

---Requirements for "storage" and "transportation" have been added (see 7.3 and 7.4).

This document is modified to adopt ISO 6575:1982 "Fenugreek (whole or powdered) specification".

This document has undergone the following structural adjustments compared to ISO 6575:1982.

---A new chapter on "Terms and Definitions" has been added, with subsequent chapters numbered sequentially. Section 3.1 corresponds to the first sentence of section 3.1 in ISO 6575:1982.

--- 7.3 and 7.4 correspond to Annexes of ISO 6575:1982.

The technical differences between this document and ISO 6575:1982, and the reasons therefor, are as follows.

---The wording of "scope" has been changed (see Chapter 1) to better suit the practical application needs in my country;

---The term and definition of "fenugreek powder" have been added (see 3.2) to suit my country's trade needs;

---ISO 1208:1982 (see 4.3) has been replaced by the normatively referenced GB/T 12729.13.

GB/T 12729.5 replaces ISO 927:1982 (see 4.4) to adapt to my country's technical conditions and increase operability;

---ISO 939:1980 has been replaced with the normatively referenced GB 5009.3-2016, and the unit for "moisture" has been changed.

GB 5009.4 replaced ISO 928:1997 and ISO 930:1997, and changed the individual values for "Total Ash" and "Acid-Insoluble Ash".

The ISO 941:1980 standard was replaced with the normatively referenced GB/T 12729.11, and the content of "cold water soluble extract" was changed.

Requirements (see 4.5) are needed to adapt to our country's technological conditions and trade needs;

---ISO 948:1980 has been replaced with the normatively referenced GB/T 12729.2, which adds sampling limit requirements (see Chapter 5) to adapt to...

Based on my country's technological conditions;

---ISO 2825:1981 (see 6.2) has been replaced with the normatively referenced GB/T 12729.3 to adapt to my country's technical conditions, and the following has been added.

Operability;

---The requirements for packaging, labeling, storage, and transportation have been changed (see Chapter 7) to meet the actual needs of this product.

The following editorial changes have been made to this document.

---To align with existing standards, the standard name has been changed to "Fructus Fenugreek";

---The main producing countries in section 3.1 of ISO 6575:1982 have been removed.

1 Scope

This document specifies the technical requirements for fenugreek (whole or powdered), as well as the requirements for packaging, labeling, storage, and transportation, and describes the corresponding extraction methods.

Samples and test methods.

This document applies to the quality assessment and trade of fenugreek.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

The dried, mature seeds of *Trigonella foenum-graecum* L., a plant belonging to the genus *Trigonella* in the family Leguminosae.

The powdered product obtained by grinding whole fenugreek (3.1).
