Control gear for discharge lamps consumes energy, and its efficiency affects overall lighting performance. This standard, Part 2 of the series on energy performance of controlgear for electric light sources, gives a method of measurement to determine the efficiency of controlgear for discharge lamps, with fluorescent lamps excluded. It is a recommended national standard.

Ballast and driver manufacturers, luminaire makers, lighting test laboratories, energy efficiency evaluators and purchasers can use it so that efficiency figures are produced in a consistent way. Product engineers working on high intensity discharge systems will see it as the measurement reference.

It was issued on 31 October 2025 and took effect on 1 February 2026, so it is in force. It replaces GB/T 32483.2-2021, and laboratories should check their reports against the new text.
