GB/T 32220-2015 is the English-translated version of 锥套 型式、尺寸和基本参数.
China's national standard for taper bushes. It specifies the types and structural dimensions, the basic parameters and the designation of taper bushes, and it applies to the general industrial taper bushes used to connect a transmission component - a pulley, a sprocket, a gear, a coupling or a wheel hub - to a shaft. A taper bush is a split conical sleeve that sits between a shaft and the bore of the component mounted on it. Drawing screws pull the bush into the matching taper of the component, the split closes, and the bush grips the shaft by friction over its whole bearing area. It is a mechanically simple device that solves an awkward problem: fitting a pulley to a shaft rigidly, concentrically, and in a way that can be removed again. A parallel bore with a keyway needs a clearance to be assembled, and that clearance becomes runout and eventually fretting; an interference fit is concentric and rigid but has to be heated on and cannot easily be taken off; a taper bush gives the grip of an interference fit and comes apart with the same screws that installed it. The commercial value of the standard is that the taper bush is an interface. A bush is bought from one supplier, the pulley from another and the shaft is made by a third, and they only fit together because the taper, the length, the screw positions and the bore series are all standard. This standard fixes sixteen sizes from 1008 to 5050 and divides them into three series by the thread standard used - metric, British and American - and it directs new designs to the metric series and reserves the other two for maintenance. Issued on 10 December 2015 and in force since 1 July 2016.
