GB/T 31900-2024 is the Chinese standard for woven children's clothing. Children's garments carry requirements adult ones do not, and most of them exist because of a specific accident: cords and drawstrings at the neck that catch on playground equipment, small parts that detach and are swallowed, sharp points and hard ornaments, and dyes and finishes that a child will suck and absorb. The standard sets the classification and grades, then the requirements: the appearance and workmanship, the dimensional specifications and their tolerances, the fabric performance including tensile and tear strength, seam slippage, pilling and abrasion, the colour fastness to washing, perspiration, rubbing, saliva and light, the dimensional stability to washing, the safety requirements on cords, small parts and sharp objects, and the chemical requirements covering formaldehyde, pH, azo dyes, extractable heavy metals and odour. It then gives the test methods, the inspection rules and the marking, packaging, transport and storage. It takes effect on 1 December 2026.

5.1 Inspection tools

5.1.1 Measuring ruler, non-retractable, with a graduation value of 1 mm.

5.1.2 Gray scale for assessing change in color (GB/T 250). 5.1.3 1/12 color cards of standard depths for dyeing with dyestuffs (GB/T 4841.3).
