GB/T 29404-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering setting how much water an irrigated hectare of a given crop may use in a given region - the crop water requirement, the effective rainfall, the efficiency of the irrigation system and the quota that follows, which is the instrument by which northern China rations agricultural water. It replaces GB/T 29404-2012, under the Ministry of Water Resources. It was issued on 31 December 2025 and has been in force since 1 July 2026, replacing GB/T 29404-2012. Foreword
This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part
1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document replaces GB/T 29404-2012 "Guidelines for the Compilation of Irrigation Water Quotas". Compared with GB/T 29404-2012, except for structural adjustments... Aside from integration and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
---The general rules have been amended (see Chapter 4, Chapter 3 of the.2012 edition);
---The requirements for organization and approval in the compilation process have been removed (see sections
4.3 of the.2012 version), and the compilation workflow has been changed. It was later incorporated into the "General Rules" (see 4.2,.2012 edition 4.2);
---Added methods for compiling national irrigation water quotas (see 5.1.2, 5.2.1, 6.1.3, 6.2.3, 6.3.2, and 7.1.2);
---The format for irrigation water quotas has been changed (see 7.1.1,
8.3 of the.2012 edition);
---The calculation process for irrigation water quotas has been revised (see 6.2.2, 7.1.1, and
8.1 in the.2012 edition), and irrigation water quotas have been added. The calculation methods for the general value and advanced value are shown in 7.1.

1 Scope

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Irrigation water quota The unit area of a certain crop, determined under specified location and hydrological year type, during the preparation period and the entire growth period (each year for perennial crops), is... Irrigation water consumption.
3.2 Under a specified hydrological year type, for a certain crop during the preparation period and throughout its entire growth period (perennial crops are counted annually), irrigation into the field can benefit the crop. The amount of water per unit area that is used or beneficial to crop growth, excluding losses from canal transport and field irrigation.
3.3 Irrigation water utilization coefficient The ratio of net irrigation water volume to gross irrigation water volume in an irrigation district or region during a certain period, or the product of the canal system water utilization coefficient and the field water utilization coefficient.
3.4 The ratio of the total outflow of water from the final fixed channels (pipes) of an irrigation district to the total inflow of water into the head canal during a certain period.
3.5 The ratio of net irrigation water volume of a field to outflow from the final fixed canal (pipeline) during a certain period.
3.6 The weighted average of a certain crop in a region under specified hydrological year conditions, current irrigation district types, and different irrigation methods, based on irrigated area. Irrigation water quota.
