Scope
GB/T 28991-2020 is the English-translated version of 油茶良种选育技术规程.
GB/T 28991-2020 is the Chinese national code of practice for selecting and breeding oil-tea camellia. It describes the technical procedure for picking superior trees, for artificial hybridisation, for test determination and for regional trials, and applies to the breeding of Camellia oleifera and the related oil-bearing camellia species.
The selection index table was extended with entries for Camellia polyodonta, Camellia pitardii, Camellia gauchowensis and Camellia saluenensis, while the acid value limit of the previous edition was dropped.
Traits to be measured include crown yield per unit area, fresh seed rate, dry seed rate, dry kernel rate and kernel oil content, with fat determined to GB 5009.6 and fatty acids to GB 5009.168, and clone trait evaluation now runs three consecutive years instead of four. It replaces GB/T 28991-2012 and was issued on 19 November 2020.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard replaces GB/T 28991-2012 "Camellia Camellia Seed Breeding Technology".
Compared with GB/T 28991-2012, the main technical changes of this standard are as follows.
---Added the requirements for the selection indexes of Multi-tooth Red Camellia, Southwest Red Camellia, Gaozhou Camellia, and Weining Short Pillar Tea (see Table 1);
---Added other breeding methods (see 4.3);
---Deleted the limit value of acid value in the main indicators for the selection of common oil-tea camellia and related oil species (see Table 1 in the 2012 edition);
---The length of time for the evaluation of clone traits has been reduced from 4 consecutive years to 3 consecutive years (see Table 1 and 4.4.2.2, 4.4.2.3, 2012 edition 6.3);
---Related methods for family determination have been deleted (see 6.2 of the 2012 edition);
--- Refinement of the regional test method (see 4.5, Chapter 7 of the 2012 edition).
1 Scope
This standard stipulates the technical procedures for selection of excellent trees, artificial hybridization, test determination, and regional test for the selection and breeding of Camellia oleifera.
This standard applies to the selection and breeding of Camellia oleifera.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 Oil-tea camellia
The general term for oil-used species with high oil content in seeds of Camellia and economic cultivation value.
Note: Cameliaoleifera (Cameliaoleifera) is the main product, including C.meiocarpa, C.chekiangoleosa, and Vietnamese oil.
Tea (C.vietnamensis), Gaozhou Camellia (C.gauchowenesis), Tengchong Safflower Camellia (C.reticulata), Youxian Camellia (C.yuhsienensis), Guangning Safflower Camellia (C.semiserrata), Multi-toothed Black Camellia (C.polyodonta), Southwest Red Camellia (C.pitardi), Weining Short Pillar Tea (C.saluenen-sis) etc.
3.2 Crown yield per unit area
The fruiting ability of crown width per unit area is usually expressed by the fruit yield per square meter (m2) of crown width.
3.3 Fresh seed rate
The percentage of the quality of the seeds of the fully mature uncracked fruit to the quality of the fresh fruit.
3.4 Dry seed rate
The quality of dried seeds (constant weight at 105°C) accounts for the percentage of the quality of fresh fruits.
3.5 Dry kernel rate
Kernel mass accounts for the percentage of dried seeds mass.
3.6 Kernel oil content
The percentage of oil quality in dried seed kernels to kernel quality.
