Scope

GB/T 26159-2010 is the English-translated version of 中国未成年人手部尺寸分型.

GB/T 26159-2010 sets out the hand size system for Chinese minors, giving the hand size types for the age range of 4 to 17 years together with the method for calculating the dimensions of other parts of the hand.

Clause 1 states that it applies to the design, production and selection of gloves, toys and other articles for minors.

Its contents list names a scope clause, normative references, terms and definitions, clause 4 on the setting of hand size types, clause 5 on the calculation of the size of other parts of the hand and clause 6 on the use of the hand size classification, followed by informative Annex A on the hand measurement scheme, Annex B on the coverage of the hand size types and Annex C on the mean values and standard deviations of hand length and hand breadth, and a bibliography.

Clause 3 defines the measurements used, among them the lengths of the thumb and of the third, fourth and fifth fingers, each taken as the straight line distance from the finger tip to the flexion crease at the metacarpophalangeal joint, the distance from the first web space to the tip of the third finger with the thumb naturally abducted, and the breadth of the thumb joint.

Clause 4 designates a size type by a number and a type, the number standing for hand length in blocks of 10 mm, with the mid value of each block used. The terms and the body measurements rest on GB/T 5703, the basic human body measurements for technical design, which is a modified adoption of ISO 7250-1:2008.

The standard is administered by the national ergonomics standardization technical committee, SAC/TC7, and was drafted by the China National Institute of Standardization with the Academy of Mathematics and Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Beijing Institute of Clothing, an air force aviation medicine institute and a chemical defence research institute. It was issued on 14 January 2011 and has applied since 1 July 2011.
