Scope

GB/T 25053-2025 is the English-translated version of 热连轧低碳钢板及钢带.

GB/T 25053-2025 is the delivery standard for continuously hot-rolled low carbon steel sheet and strip intended for cold forming. It covers the four grades HR1 to HR4, their chemical composition and thickness ranges, width and length rules taken from GB/T 709 and, for coils, the diameters and maximum mass.

Steel is melted in an oxygen converter or electric furnace and delivered hot-rolled, with levelling at the purchaser request; surfaces are supplied as rolled or descaled, sheet trimmed and strip untrimmed, and oiled material must stay free of rust for three months.

Mechanical and forming properties, test methods, re-inspection, surface quality, marking and ordering details complete it. Steel mills and press shops use it. A modified adoption of ISO 3573:2012, it replaces GB/T 25053-2010, was issued on 29 August 2025 and applies from 1 March 2026.

f) The chemical compositions of designations HR1, HR2, HR3, and HR4 have been changed (see Table 2 of this Edition; Table 2 in Edition 2010). The upper limit of manganese content has been added for designation HR2 when the nominal thickness is greater than 14 mm (see Table 2 of this Edition);

g) The surface condition of steel sheets and strips has been modified, with "pickling" changed to "removal of iron oxide scale" [see 6.2 b) of this Edition; 3.3 b) in Edition 2010];

h) The provisions have been added regarding the edge condition, welding, and applications of steel sheets and strips (see 6.3, 6.5, and 6.7 of this Edition);

i) The provisions regarding the mechanical and technological properties of steel sheets and strips have been modified (see 6.8 and 6.9 of this Edition; 6.5 in Edition 2010);

j) The provisions regarding the dimensions, shape, weight, and permissible deviations of steel sheets and strips have been revised (see Chapter 7 of this Edition; Chapter 5 in Edition 2010);

k) The inspection items for dimensions, shape, and surface quality have been added (see Table 6 of this Edition);

4 Dimensions

4.1 The thickness range of steel sheets and strips shall conform to the provisions of Table 1.

4.2 The width and length of steel sheets and strips shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 709.

4.3 When steel strip is delivered in coils, its minimum inner diameter or minimum inner diameter and permissible deviation shall be specified. In addition, the maximum outer diameter of the steel coil and the upper limit of the weight of the steel coil shall also be specified.

5 Manufacturing process

5.1 The steel used for the steel sheets and strips is smelted in an oxygen converter or electric furnace. Unless otherwise specified, the smelting method is selected by the supplier.

5.2 Steel sheets and strips are delivered in hot-rolled condition.

5.3 The purchaser shall clarify whether leveling is required.

6 Technical requirements

6.1 Chemical composition

6.1.1 The chemical composition (smelting analysis) of the steel shall conform to the specifications in Table 2.

6.1.2 The permissible deviation of the chemical composition of finished steel sheets and strips shall comply with the provisions of GB/T 222.

6.2 Surface condition

Steel sheets and strips are classified by surface condition as follows.

a) Hot-rolled surface;

b) Surface with iron oxide scale removed.

6.3 Edge state

Steel sheets are typically supplied in the trimmed (EC) condition. Steel strips are typically supplied in the untrimmed (EM) condition. The purchaser shall specify the edge condition. Other edge conditions may be provided upon mutual agreement between the supplier and the purchaser.

6.4 Oil application

When the surface of steel sheets and strips is deoxidized iron scale, they are usually supplied with oil. The oil film shall be removable with an alkaline solution. Under normal packaging, transportation, loading and unloading, and storage conditions, the supplier shall guarantee that the surface of the steel sheets and strips shall not rust for 3 months from the date of manufacture. With the agreement of both the supplier and the purchaser, and as specified in the contract, the surface may also be supplied without oil, except for iron scale.

NOTE 1: For products that are not coated with oil as requested by the customer, rust may occur, and the surface is also prone to minor scratches during transportation, loading and unloading, and storage.

NOTE 2: The issuance date on the product quality certificate or inspection document is usually designated as the product's manufacturing date.

6.5 Welding

If the client selects a suitable welding process, steel sheets and strips are generally suitable for welding. Before welding, appropriate methods shall be used to remove iron oxide scale, oxides, etc. from the surface of the steel plate or strip, according to the requirements of the welding process.

6.6 Processing level

The processing level of steel sheets and strips shall conform to the provisions of Table 3.

6.7 Usage

As agreed upon by both the supplier and the purchaser and specified in the contract, the supplier may produce steel sheets and strips that meet the manufacturing requirements of the parts, and these shall be identified by the part name or intended application. In this case, the purchaser shall provide the part name, manufacturing process, and any special requirements. Mechanical properties can be referenced from the specifications in Table 4.

6.8 Mechanical properties

6.8.1 The mechanical properties of steel sheets and strips shall conform to the provisions of Table 4.

NOTE: Due to the effects of aging, the mechanical properties of steel sheets and strips shall change as the storage time increases, such as an increase in yield strength and tensile strength, a decrease in elongation after fracture, a deterioration in formability, and the appearance of tensile strain marks.

It is recommended that users use them as soon as possible. […]
