Scope
GB/T 2449.2-2015 is the English-translated version of 工业硫磺 第2部分:液体产品.
GB/T 2449.2-2015 fixes the requirements, sampling, test methods, inspection rules, marks, packaging, transport, storage and safety provisions for liquid sulphur for industrial use.
Clause 1 states that this Part applies to liquid industrial sulphur produced from recycled petroleum refinery gas and natural gas, and adds that liquid industrial sulphur produced by other processes may also be handled by reference to it.
A warning at the head of the text notes that some of the reagents used are toxic or corrosive and some of the operations dangerous, that the Part does not reveal all potential safety issues, and that users are responsible for taking appropriate safety and health measures.
Its contents list names Scope, Normative references, Term and definition, Requirements, Sampling, Test methods, Inspection rules, Symbols, packaging, transportation and storage, and Safety.
Clause 5 prescribes sampling to GB/T 6680: point samples taken by automatic or mechanical closure during the loading or discharge of tankers, or equal-volume composites from the upper, middle and lower sampling ports of tanks, with discharge openings used where there are no sampling ports; the total sample is at least 1 kg, it is divided in equal volumes into test and reservation samples with the reservation samples kept at least 30 days, and about 500 g of test sample is crushed to pass a 250 micrometre test sieve conforming to the R40/3 series of GB/T 6003.1; a separate sampling device is used for hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen polysulfide.
Clause 6 determines appearance by visual observation and refers the determination of the mass fractions of sulphur, water, ash, organics, arsenic and iron and of the acidity to GB/T 2449.1, while hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen polysulfide are determined by melting the specimen in an oil bath at 145 degrees Celsius plus or minus 2 degrees, purging the hydrogen sulfide with nitrogen, absorbing it in zinc acetate solution to form zinc sulfide, reacting that precipitate with iodine in acid solution and titrating the excess iodine with sodium thiosulfate standard volumetric solution.
Clause 7 requires type inspection at least once a month and also on a change in the sources of raw and auxiliary materials or in the process, on resumption after a production halt, where exit-factory results diverge markedly from the previous type inspection, or at the demand of the national quality supervision and inspection agency or of users; results are judged by the rounding comparison method of GB/T 8170, and a single failing indicator calls for re-sampling, with the whole batch rejected if one indicator still fails on re-inspection.
The same clause gives organizations using the product the right to carry out acceptance against this Part, with arbitration inspection by a qualified third party in case of dispute, and clause 8 requires each packaging container to carry an obvious and solid Flammable Liquid symbol conforming to GB 190 and the product to be carried in special tankers.
This Part is Part 2 of GB/T 2449 Sulphur for industrial use, the other part covering solid product; it was drafted to the rules of GB/T 1.1-2009, falls under the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Chemistry (SAC/TC 63), was issued on 9 October 2015 and has applied since 1 May 2016.

5 Sampling
5.1.1 Sampling method
TAKE samples according to the provisions in the GB/T 6680 and the following ways.
- TAKE samples from the tankers in the infusion or discharge process. USE the method of automatic or mechanical closure to periodically take point samples.
- TAKE samples from the tanks. USE the actual loaded liquid sulphur as a benchmark. Respectively TAKE samples from the sampling ports equipped with valves in the upper, middle and lower positions. MIX the samples in equal volumes into average samples.
If there are no sampling ports but discharge openings on the tankers or tanks, TAKE samples from the discharge openings instead.
5.1.2 Sample size
The total number of samples taken shall not be less than 1kg. After solidification, MAKE the samples into the laboratory samples used for determining the inspection items, except the mass fraction of hydrogen sulfide. If the laboratory samples are more than 1kg, CRUSH them into the fragments with the diameters of less than 25mm, and thus DIVIDE them into the laboratory samples weighing 1kg.
5.1.3 Laboratory sample processing
DIVIDE the laboratory samples in equal volumes into test samples and reservation samples. Respectively PUT them into the sample bottles (sacks).
SEAL afterwards. STICK labels on the sample bottles (sacks). INDICATE the product names, batch numbers, sampling date, sampling personnel, etc. The reservation samples shall be kept for at least 30d.
5.1.4 Preparation of test samples
SMASH about 500g of test samples, until they can pass through the test sieve with the pore size of 250µm. All the test sieves being used shall conform to the requirements for R40/3 series in the GB/T 6003.1.
5.2 Sampling used for determining the mass fractions of hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen polysulfide
According to the provisions in the GB/T 6680, USE the sampling device shown in Figure 1 to take samples from the sampling ports (discharge openings) of the tankers or tanks.
6 Test methods
6.2 Determination of the appearance
USE the visual observation method for appearance determination.
6.3 Determination of the mass fraction of sulphur
It shall be in accordance with the provisions in the GB/T 2449.1.
