Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part

1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents". Drafting. This document supersedes GB/T 20617-2006 "Determination of Iron Content in Fireworks and Firecrackers Pyrotechnics" and is consistent with GB/T 20617-2006. Compared to previous versions, aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

1 Scope

GB/T 20617-2026 is the Chinese national standard covering iron in a pyrotechnic mixture. Iron filings make the gold sparks of a fountain, and the amount and the coating on them decide how long those sparks last. It fixes the reagents, the sample preparation, the procedure and the calculation. It replaces GB/T 20617-2006 and takes effect on 1 June 2026, one of the pyrotechnic analysis methods revised together. It was issued on 27 February 2026 and has been in force since 1 June 2026, replacing GB/T 20617-2006. The document is under the responsibility of the China National Light Industry Council. 4.Principles After pretreatment, the sample was fully dissolved in dilute nitric acid and filtered. The pH of the solution was adjusted and a precipitant was added to remove the ferric iron. The ions were separated and titrated directly with disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetate (EDTA) at pH

2.0 using 1% sulfosalicylic acid indicator solution until the solution turned beige. Color, and hold for 30 seconds.

6.Reagents Unless otherwise specified, only reagents confirmed to be of analytical grade and water of at least grade 3 as specified in GB/T 6682 shall be used in the analysis.
