Scope
GB/T 2018-2011 is the English-translated version of 磁带录音机测量方法.
GB/T 2018-2011 fixes the methods for measuring the characteristics of magnetic tape sound recording and reproducing equipment.
Clause 1 states that it applies to reel tape recorders using 6.30 mm tape and to cassette tape recorders and players using 3.81 mm tape, and expressly excludes special recorders such as modulation-type recorders and high-speed duplicators.
Its contents list names Test conditions, Measurements and a normative Appendix A on the technical requirements for test tapes, that annex covering the reference tape requirements, the mechanical requirements for the cassette and the basic parameters of the test tape.
The measurement clause runs to twenty-five items, among them tape speed error, jitter rate, start-up time, rewind time, stop time after rewind or playback, mechanical noise, playback-channel and overall-channel frequency response, playback-channel and overall-channel signal-to-noise ratio, playback-channel harmonic distortion, playback distortion, overall-channel harmonic distortion, crosstalk, channel isolation, stereo channel amplitude and phase balance, maximum and minimum input level, maximum output level, input and output impedance, continuous operating time and maximum power consumption.
Clause 3 takes its terms from GB/T 2900.75 and GB/T 2900.76 and adds its own, defining rewind time, the magnetic track with a note on two-track and four-track recording, flux level and flux density as the flux per unit track width, the reference flux density chosen as the 0 dB point when the electro-acoustic performance of a recorder is tested, and channel isolation as the decibel ratio between the unwanted voltage appearing at the output of one channel and the useful signal voltage at the output of the channel actually driven.
The foreword records that compared with the previous edition a foreword was added, the definitions were reduced, the requirements for test equipment were simplified, and the definition and the measurement of playback distortion were added.
It cites GB/T 2900.75-2008 and GB/T 2900.76-2008 on electrotechnical terminology, GB/T 3240 on frequencies commonly used in acoustic measurement, GB/T 3785.1-2010 on sound level meters and GB/T 9029 on measuring jitter, was proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and is administered by SAC/TC242, under ICS 33.160.30 and Chinese standard class M71.
It replaces GB/T 2018-1987, was issued on 2011-12-30 and has applied since 2012-05-01.

Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with GB/T 1.1-2009 given rules.
This standard replaces GB/T 2018-1987 "method of measuring tape recorder." This standard and GB/T 2018-1987 compared to the main changes are as follows.
--- Increasing the foreword;
--- Reducing the definition, see Chapter 3;
--- Streamlined test equipment requirements, see Chapter 4;
--- Increase the playback distortion definition, 3.12;
--- Increased measurement of playback distortion, 5.12.
The standard proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China.
1 Scope
This standard specifies the bandwidth of 6.30mm disc magnetic tape and cassette tape recorder and player of the measurement methods of 3.81mm.
This standard applies to bandwidth 6.30mm disc and cassette tape magnetic recorder of 3.81mm. This standard does not apply to special Special tape recorder, such as modulation recorders and high-speed copying machines.
