Scope

GB/T 17843-2025 is the English-translated version of 船舶与海上技术 挖泥船 术语.

GB/T 17843-2025 defines the terms and definitions relating to dredgers.

Clause 1 says it applies to equipment used for excavating and maintaining waterways and for dredging operations, that the terms it defines can be used in documents of various kinds, that the use of synonyms for terms it does not include is discouraged, and that the abbreviations it specifies may be used where no misunderstanding will arise, combinations of terms being permitted as well.

Clause 2 states that the document has no normative references. Clause 3, Terminology, opens with 3.1, General Terminology for Dredgers, of which the automatic draft prints eight entries, cross-referring to one another by number: dredging, hopper loading, soil, dredging site, dredger, dredging unit, dredging fleet and dredging equipment.

The draft breaks off there and the page carries no table of contents, so no entry after 3.1.8 is shown, although the foreword's list of changes cites subclause numbers as far as 3.8.4.12.

That list is long and keyed to both editions: it records terms renamed and redefined, a large block of terms added and a block of terms deleted, and changes to the English wording of a few terms, each against the corresponding clause of the 2007 edition.

The frontispiece marks the document IDT to ISO 8384:2019 and the foreword says it adopts that standard; it was proposed by and is administered by the National Technical Committee on Standardization of Marine Ships (SAC/TC12), and the foreword records that this is the second revision since the first publication in 1999.

It replaces GB/T 17843-2007, was issued on 5 October 2025 and has applied since 1 May 2026.
