Scope
GB/T 1479.3-2017 is the English-translated version of 金属粉末 松装密度的测定 第3部分:振动漏斗法.
GB/T 1479.3-2017 describes the oscillating funnel method for the apparent density of metallic powders.
It is meant for powders that will not flow freely through the 5.0 mm funnel of the funnel method in GB/T 1479.1, and it does not apply to powders that break up easily under vibration, which are measured with the Scott volumeter method of GB/T 1479.2.
The powder is fed into a funnel fitted with a vibrator, falls from a set height and fills a measuring cup of known volume in a loose state; the apparent density is the mass per unit volume, in g/cm3.
The standard specifies the funnel, the vibrator and its frequencies, the measuring cup, the support, base and locating block, and the symbols used. It replaces GB/T 5061-1998, was issued on 29 September 2017 and has applied since 1 April 2018.

Foreword
GB/T 1479 "loose powder metal powder density determination" is divided into three parts.
--- Part 1. Funnel method;
--- Part 2. Scott capacity meter method;
--- Part 3. Vibration funnel method.
This section GB/T 1479 Part 3.
This section drafted in accordance with GB/T 1.1-2009 given rules.
This Part Replaces GB/T 5061-1998 "Determination of Bulk Density of Metallic Powders - Part 3: Vibration Funnel Method".
This section compared with GB/T 5061-1998 main changes are as follows.
--- Added Chapter 2 Normative references;
--- Added Chapter 4 symbols and definitions;
--- revised the description of the vibrator;
--- Revised measuring cup size and description;
--- Increased support and base, positioning block requirements.
1 Scope
GB/T 1479 provisions of this part of the vibrating funnel method loose metal powder density measurement method.
This section applies to the funnel can not flow freely through the funnel method (see GB/T 1479.1) 5.0mm diameter metal funnel funnel.
This section does not apply to vibration easily broken metal powder (GB/T 1479.2 specifies the bulk density of this powder test methods).
2 Normative references
The following documents for the application of this document is essential. For dated references, only the dated version applies to this document. For undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this document.
GB/T 1479.1 Determination of bulk density of metal powders - Part 1: Funnel method
GB/T 1479.2 Determination of bulk density of metal powders - Part 2: Scott volumetric method
3 Principle
The powder is charged into a funnel with a vibrating device and vibrated under certain conditions. The powder is vibrated by a certain height from the hopper Free fall, fully loaded in the loose state of the known volume measuring cup. The mass per unit volume of loose powder indicates the bulk density of the powder.
4 Symbols and definitions
The symbols and definitions involved in this section are shown in Table 1.
5 Instruments
5.1 Funnel
Funnel shape and size requirements shown in Figure 1.
5.2 Vibrator
The power frequency of the vibrator is 50Hz ~ 60Hz, the funnel vibrates at the frequency of 100Hz ~ 120Hz.
