Scope

GB/T 11787-2026 is the English-translated version of 纤维绳索聚酯 3股、4股、8股和12股绳索.

GB/T 11787-2026 is the standard for polyester fibre ropes of 3-strand, 4-strand, 8-strand and 12-strand construction. It sets out the general technical requirements for 3-strand and 4-strand twisted ropes and for 8-strand and 12-strand braided ropes made of polyester fibre for general purposes, and it gives rules for marking.

The contents list terms and definitions, including the minimum breaking strength, and marking. The standard does not cover every variation in strength or product performance, so users should consult the rope manufacturer to be sure the intended design meets the needs of the application.

Issued on 2 July 2026 and applicable from 1 February 2027, it replaces GB/T 11787-2017.

Foreword

This document complies with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Standardization Work Guidelines Part 1: Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents".

This document supersedes GB/T 11787-2017 "Fiber Ropes - Polyester 3-ply, 4-ply, 8-ply and 12-ply Ropes", and is consistent with GB/T 11787-

Compared to 2017, aside from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.

---The scope has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2017 edition);

---The term and definition of "minimum breaking strength" have been added (see 3.1);

---The linear density deviation rate has been changed (see Chapter 6, Chapter 6 in the 2017 edition).

This document is equivalent to ISO 1141:2021 "Fiber ropes - Polyester 3-strand, 4-strand, 8-strand and 12-strand ropes".

1 Scope

This document specifies the general technical requirements for 3-strand and 4-strand twisted ropes and 8-strand and 12-strand braided ropes made of polyester fiber for general purposes.

The requirements are as follows, and the identification rules are given.

This document does not cover all variations in strength or product performance. Consult with the rope manufacturer to ensure the intended design meets application requirements.

3 Terms and Definitions

3.1 Minimum breaking strength (MBS)

The minimum strength that a fiber rope should achieve when tested according to recognized procedures/testing methods.

Note: MBS is set by each manufacturer after conducting fracture strength tests using their own internal statistical methods. See Appendix D of GB/T 21328-2024. The document provides two statistical methods for calculating MBS. [Source: GB/T 21328-2024, 3.2]
