3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
forage harvester
Agricultural machinery used for harvesting or collecting forage crops, cutting the crops into pieces, and conveying the fragments into hoppers or individual vehicles.
Note 1.Typical harvested forage crops refer to pasture grasses, bean vines, mixed crops, and/or row-sown crops such as corn and sorghum. Crushed material can be used for sealed storage or drying.
It can be dehydrated and stored, or fed directly to livestock.
Note 2.The forage harvester can harvest forage crops directly by cutting them across its full width, in a single row or multiple rows. It can also pick up, cut, and lay or pile the forage crops from the ground.
The forage crops are placed in the field. Forage harvesters come in three types. suspended, towed, and self-propelled.
3.1.1
Precision cut forage harvester A feeding mechanism consisting of four or more feed rollers directionally feeds crop portions into the feed collection device at a constant speed.
Acquired (3.1).
Note. This type of feed harvester can cut the material into the shortest and most uniform segments.
3.1.2
Semi-precision-cut forage harvester the crop is fed into the cutting or shearing device using a feeding mechanism consisting of fewer than four feed rollers or other devices (such as a screw conveyor).
The feed harvester is set up (3.1).
Note. The average cut length and cut uniformity fall between those of precision feed harvesters and bulk feed harvesters. These harvesters include dual-blade and multi-blade feed harvesters.
Seize the opportunity.
3.1.3
random-cut forage harvester There is no dedicated feeding mechanism; typically, a shovel is used to directly impact and cut upright or already cut crops into smaller pieces.
Or a forage harvester that pre-cuts crops into short sections (3.1).
Note. This type of feed harvester typically produces the longest average cut length and the worst cut uniformity.
