Scope

GB 39669-2020 is the English-translated version of 牙刷及口腔器具安全通用技术要求.

GB 39669-2020 specifies the terms and definitions, product classification, safety requirements and test methods for toothbrushes and oral implements, and applies to toothbrushes of all kinds (adult and children's, manual and electric, molded and tufted) and to oral implements for daily cleaning and care such as interdental brushes, oral irrigators, tongue scrapers, toothpicks, dental floss, floss picks and teethers.

The requirements limit six phthalate plasticizers (DBP, BBP and DEHP, and DNOP, DINP and DIDP, each group to a total of 0.1 %) and eight soluble hazardous elements (antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury, selenium), set the pH of tapered filament bristles at 5.5 to 8.0 and leachable sulfur dioxide in wooden and bamboo toothpicks at no more than 600 mg/kg.

For toothbrushes they fix the tuft pull force (>= 15 N) and neck bending resistance (>= 43 N adult, >= 25 N children's), the acceptance rates of end-rounded and tapered filament tips, electrical safety by reference to GB 4706.1 and GB 4706.59, tufting block retention of electric toothbrushes (>= 50 N), chemical resistance, and the safety of removable parts, edges, points and accessories of children's products, with test methods for each property and annexes on hazardous elements and bristle pH.

It replaces the mandatory safety content of GB 19342-2013, GB 30002-2013 and GB 30003-2013, changing the requirements for tapered filaments, edges and points and children's accessories, and adds an annex correlating old and new clauses.

Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.

This standard replaces the mandatory safety-related content of GB 19342-2013 Toothbrushes, GB 30002-2013 Children's toothbrushes and GB 30003-2013 Toothbrushes with tapered filaments. Compared with the mandatory content of those three standards, the main technical changes are as follows:

- the requirements for "tapered filaments" under "safety of toothbrush bristles" have been changed (see 5.6.3.2; 5.5 of GB 30003-2013);

- the requirements for "edges and points" have been changed (see 5.7; 4.2.1 of GB 19342-2013, 4.2.1 of GB 30002-2013, 5.2.1 of GB 30003-2013);

- the requirements for "accessories of children's toothbrushes and oral implements" have been changed (see 5.8; 4.7 of GB 30002-2013);

- Annex A has been added, indicating the correspondence of the mandatory content between the new and old editions.
