This standard applies to the motor-driven vertical-shaft rotary aerators, horizontal-shaft rotary aerators and self-priming impeller aerators used in the treatment processes for all kinds of industrial wastewater and municipal sewage and in the re-oxygenation of water bodies.

3 Terms and definitions
The terms and definitions given in JB/T 12579 and the following apply to this document.
3.1 Energy efficiency ratio for rotary aerator: under the specified test conditions, the ratio of the mass of oxygen transferred by the rotary aerator per unit of time into clean water whose dissolved oxygen is zero, to the total electrical energy consumed by the complete machine. NOTE: the unit is kilograms per kilowatt hour, kg/(kW.h), calculated on the mass of dissolved oxygen.
3.2 Minimum allowable value of energy efficiency for rotary aerator: under the specified test conditions, the lowest energy efficiency ratio permitted for a rotary aerator.
4 Energy efficiency grades
4.1 The energy efficiency of rotary aerators is divided into 3 grades (see Table 1), of which grade 1 is the most efficient. The energy efficiency ratio of a rotary aerator of each grade shall not be lower than the value specified in Table 1. Table 1 sets a value for each grade and for each of the three machine types covered - vertical-shaft rotary aerator, horizontal-shaft rotary aerator and self-priming impeller aerator.
4.2 The energy efficiency ratio of a rotary aerator is calculated by formula (1): E = SOTR / P, where E is the energy efficiency ratio of the rotary aerator under standard conditions, in kilograms per kilowatt hour, calculated on the mass of dissolved oxygen; SOTR is the oxygenation capacity of the rotary aerator under standard conditions, in kilograms per hour, calculated on the mass of dissolved oxygen; and P is the input power of the motor, in kilowatts.
5.1 Basic requirements
5.1.1 The motor selected for the rotary aerator shall not be below the grade 2 energy efficiency value specified in GB 18613.
5.1.2 The rotary aerator shall be fitted with a matched gear unit whose service factor lies within the range fixed by this clause; a gear unit with a service factor at or above the stated upper figure should not be selected; and the transmission efficiency of the gear unit shall exceed the figure given. NOTE: the service factor of a gear unit is the factor determined when selecting the gear unit, taking account of the working conditions, the driven machine and other factors.
5.1.3 The hydraulic components of the rotary aerator shall provide the functions of drawing in (entraining) air, mass-transfer oxygenation, lifting and mixing.
5.2 Minimum allowable value of energy efficiency
The energy efficiency of a rotary aerator shall not be lower than that specified for grade 3 in Table 1.
6 Test methods
The test methods are carried out as specified in JB/T 12579.
