Scope
GB 29512-2025 is the English-translated version of 手部防护装备的选择、使用和维护.
GB 29512-2025 specifies the principles and requirements for the selection, use and maintenance of hand protective equipment used in production activities; it does not apply to hand protective equipment for medical or firefighting use, and it has no normative references.
Selection starts from a hazard assessment of the work environment (physical, chemical and microbiological factors, exposure duration and frequency, effectiveness of engineering controls, residual hazards) and follows set steps: choosing the type and performance level, checking the national or industry product standard, material, coverage, size and comfort, number of uses, purchasing specifications, instructions and markings, and the maintenance method.
The document then sets requirements for the use of the equipment (understanding its limitations, service life, correct wearing, change of equipment between workplaces, connection with other protective equipment, inspection before and after use) and for its maintenance and discard, with informative annexes giving selection examples by hazard factor and guidance on chemical protective gloves.
It replaces the recommended standard GB/T 29512-2013 as a mandatory standard: the term hand protective equipment and general selection requirements have been added, hazard evaluation has become hazard assessment, several glove-specific terms, the management requirements and the hazard control requirements have been deleted, the use, inspection and discard requirements have been revised, and the selection examples annex has become informative.

Foreword
This document has been drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2020 Directives for standardization - Part 1: Rules for the structure and drafting of standardizing documents.
This document replaces GB/T 29512-2013 Hand protection - Guideline for selection, use and maintenance of protective gloves. Compared with GB/T 29512-2013, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:
- the term and definition "hand protective equipment" has been added (see 3.1), the term "hazard evaluation" has been changed to "hazard assessment" (see 3.2; 3.2 of the 2013 edition), and the terms and definitions "protective gloves", "dexterity", "degradation", "penetration", "permeation", "breakthrough time" and "permeation rate" have been deleted (see 3.1 and 3.3 to 3.8 of the 2013 edition);
- the hand protection management requirements have been deleted (see Clause 4 of the 2013 edition);
- general requirements for the selection of hand protective equipment have been added (see 4.1);
- the hazard control requirements have been deleted (see 5.3 of the 2013 edition);
- the general requirements for the use of hand protective equipment have been changed (see 5.1; 7.1 of the 2013 edition);
- the requirements for inspection of hand protective equipment before and after use have been changed (see 5.2; 7.2 of the 2013 edition);
- the discard principles have been changed (see 6.3; 7.5 of the 2013 edition);
- "Examples of selection of hand protective equipment for different hazard factors" has been changed from a normative annex to an informative annex (see Annex A; Annex A of the 2013 edition).
