Scope

GB 1903.75-2025 is the English-translated version of 食品安全国家标准 食品营养强化剂 (6S)-5-甲基四氢叶酸,氨基葡萄糖盐.

GB 1903.75-2025 is a mandatory national food safety standard for a specific folate fortifier. Folic acid is the form normally added to food, but it is synthetic and must be reduced by the body before it can be used; (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate is the biologically active form, absorbed directly, which matters for the substantial minority of people whose enzyme activity for that conversion is reduced. It is chemically unstable on its own, so it is supplied as a salt - here the glucosamine salt - chosen for stability. Because this is a substance added deliberately to food, the standard is compulsory and its content is a purity specification: what the substance is, how it must have been manufactured, what it must assay at and what may be present alongside it. This standard applies to the food nutrition fortifier (6S)-5-methyltetrahydrofolate glucosamine salt produced from folic acid by methylation, salification, crystallisation and freeze-drying. Under CCS X09, it is the reference for fortifier manufacturers, for food and infant formula producers using it, and for the food safety authorities enforcing what may be added to food in China.
