GB 1903.38-2018 is the Chinese national food safety standard for ferrous succinate used as a food nutrition enhancer, obtained by chemical synthesis and refining from sodium succinate and ferrous sulfate.

It gives the chemical name, the molecular formula C4H4FeO4 and the relative molecular mass 171.92 for the anhydrous substance, calculated from the 2016 international relative atomic masses.

It then sets the technical requirements, beginning with the sensory ones: a dark yellow powder whose colour, state and smell are judged on a sample placed in a clean dry white container under natural light.

The physical and chemical indicators follow in a table. Manufacturers and food control laboratories use it to accept a batch of the substance. It was issued on 21 June 2018 and has applied since 21 December 2018.
