Scope

GB 1903.36-2018 is the English-translated version of 食品安全国家标准食品营养强化剂氯化胆碱.

GB 1903.36-2018 is the Chinese national food safety standard for choline chloride used as a food nutrition enhancer. It applies to choline chloride obtained by reacting trimethylamine hydrochloride - or trimethylamine and hydrochloric acid - with ethylene oxide, and then concentrating, refining and drying the product.

The standard records the chemical name 2-hydroxyethyltrimethyl chloride, the structural formula, the molecular formula C5H14ClNO and the relative molecular mass of 139.62 on the 2016 international relative atomic masses.

Its technical requirements cover the sensory properties of Table 1 - colourless or white, in crystals or crystalline powder, observed in a clean dry white porcelain dish under natural light - and the physical and chemical indicators of Table 2. It was issued on 21 June 2018 and has applied since 21 December 2018.
