Scope
GB 16351-1996 is the English-translated version of 医用γ射线远距治疗设备放射卫生防护标准.
GB 16351-1996 sets the basic radiological health requirements for gamma-beam teletherapy equipment used in medicine, and applies to both the production and the use of such equipment.
It defines the terms used (permissible maximum source strength, useful beam, leakage radiation, penumbra, isocenter and others) and fixes the technical requirements: source strength not less than 37 TBq, output within 10% of the standard value, field unsymmetry below 5%, timer error within 1%, isocenter error within 4 mm and penumbra width below 10 mm.
Safety requirements limit head leakage in the storage position to 200 µGy/h at 5 cm and 10 µGy/h average (50 µGy/h maximum) at 1 m, and in the irradiation position to 0.1% or 0.05% of the useful beam depending on source strength, with limits on collimator and counterweight transmission and beta surface contamination.
Further clauses cover the instruments for inspection, factory inspection of products and the design of treatment rooms (area, height, maze entrance, interlocks, ventilation); Annex A gives the measurement and calculation methods for each indicator, including the star-shot isocenter check and the penumbra and leakage measurements.
