YY 0594-2006 is a mandatory Chinese medical device and pharmaceutical industry standard giving the general requirements for surgical gauze dressings. It covers dressings made of absorbent cotton gauze, viscose gauze or cotton blended fabrics, and sets their general requirements together with the packaging and marking requirements.

The types in its scope include abdominal towels, gauze swabs supplied as rolls or balls, and plain gauze; dressings meeting the standard may be supplied sterile or non-sterile.

It does not deal with the type or the content of any antibiotic in gauze that carries one. It quotes GB/T 16886.7, YY 0331 and YY 0406, under ICS 11.120.20. Issued on 19 April 2006, it has applied since 1 April 2007.
