Scope
YD/T 6879-2026 is the English-translated version of IPv6组播源路由(MSR6)控制协议技术要求.
The document specifies the control protocol requirements for IPv6 multicast source routing (MSR6). It deals with the extensions that allow a range of protocols to support MSR6: IS-IS (Intermediate System to Intermediate System), OSPFv3 (Open Shortest Path First version 3), BGP-LS (BGP Link State), BGP VPN, BGP Policy and PCEP Policy (Path Computation Element Protocol policy). Each of these protocols needs extensions before it can carry the information needed for MSR6 multicast forwarding.
The standard is used to guide the design, development and testing of the control protocols of MSR6 devices. Router and switch manufacturers, protocol software developers, operators and test laboratories are typical users. It is a voluntary standard (code with /T). It was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, issued on 1 June 2026 and takes effect on 1 September 2026. It is a new standard.
