YD/T 6856-2026 specifies the technical requirements for a honeypot that supports mimic defense, including its system architecture and its functional, performance and security requirements. A honeypot is a decoy system set up to attract and study attacks. The document applies to the development, production, certification and deployment in real environments of honeypots supporting mimic defense.

Honeypot developers and manufacturers, certification and testing bodies, and operators who deploy such systems on their networks can use it. It is a voluntary standard, as the /T in its code shows, and was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It was issued on 15 April 2026 and takes effect on 1 August 2026. It is a new standard and replaces no earlier edition. The English translation lets overseas security vendors read the architecture and the requirements as written in the Chinese standard.
