YD/T 6790-2026 describes test methods for access network equipment of the 50Gbit/s passive optical network (50G-PON), covering the optical line terminal (OLT) at the central office and the optical network unit (ONU) on the user side. The methods deal with interfaces, functions, performance, and operation, administration and maintenance. It applies to testing of 50G-PON equipment in public telecommunication networks, and private telecommunication networks may also use it as a reference.

Equipment manufacturers, telecom operators and test laboratories can use it for development, acceptance and interoperability checks. It is a voluntary industry standard, as the /T in the code shows. It was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, issued on 15 April 2026 and takes effect on 1 August 2026. It is a new standard.
