YD/T 6638-2026 specifies the technical requirements for equipment that connects the 5G messaging services of different carriers. It covers functional requirements, protocol requirements, settlement function requirements, operation and maintenance management requirements, performance and reliability requirements, disaster recovery requirements, security requirements and synchronization requirements. The interworking equipment referred to is a 5G messaging interworking gateway, which may be deployed as an independent device or as an interworking module of a 5G message centre. The document applies to the research, development and manufacture of 5G messaging interworking gateways between domestic carrier networks.

The standard is used by gateway and messaging platform manufacturers and by carriers that specify such equipment. It is a voluntary standard, as shown by the /T in its code. It was issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on 11 March 2026 and takes effect on 1 June 2026. It is a new standard.
