Part 4 of the YD/T 2904 series covers the ultra-compact integrated tunable laser assembly, referred to as the laser assembly. It defines terms and abbreviations, sets requirements for opto-electrical characteristics, software protocol, restricted substances and reliability, and describes the corresponding test methods. It also sets rules for inspection, marking, packaging, transport and storage.

The document applies to the design, development, production and inspection of the laser assembly. It is used by laser and optical module manufacturers, by makers of optical transmission equipment who integrate the assembly, by test laboratories and by buyers. It is a voluntary standard, as shown by the /T in its code. It was approved and issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on 1 June 2026 and takes effect on 1 September 2026. It is a new standard.
