YB/T 6536-2026 describes a method for regulating residual stress in steel materials by means of an underwater sound field. It covers the principle of the method, the regulation system, the regulation procedure, the evaluation of the regulation effect and the regulation report. It applies to reducing and homogenizing residual stress in steel components immersed in water. Components made of other metallic materials, and non-metallic components that transmit sound, may also follow the document by reference.

It is intended for steel fabricators and stress-relief service providers, equipment suppliers, research and testing institutes, and owners of steel components who need to specify how residual stress is treated and reported. It is a voluntary standard (code with /T), issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on 15 July 2026 and effective from 1 February 2027. It is a new standard.
