YB/T 6534-2026 specifies the technical requirements, inspection methods and rules, packaging, marking, transport, storage and quality certificate for direct reduced iron made in hydrogen-based shaft furnaces for use in steel-making. It applies to direct reduced iron produced in a hydrogen-based shaft furnace from pellets as the raw material. Direct reduced iron produced from lump material (natural ore) as the raw material may be handled by reference to the same document.

The document is used by producers of direct reduced iron, steel plants that charge it as a metallic feedstock, buyers and traders who set delivery terms, and laboratories that inspect it. It is a voluntary standard (code with /T), issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on 15 July 2026 and effective from 1 February 2027. It is a new standard.
