YB/T 6473-2026 sets out technical requirements for machine-vision-based surface defect detection systems for hot-rolled steel plates, as an application of artificial intelligence in the steel industry. It covers the system architecture, equipment requirements, system function requirements and performance requirements. It applies to the design and development of online surface defect detection systems for steel plates on the hot rolling lines of steel enterprises; online surface defect detection of other hot-rolled products may refer to it.

The document is used by steel producers, equipment and software suppliers who design and build inspection systems, and by buyers evaluating them. It is a voluntary standard, as the /T in its code shows. It was approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, issued on 15 July 2026 and takes effect on 1 February 2027. It is a new standard.
