Scope
QC/T 988-2014 is the English-translated version of 汽车车门外拉手.
QC/T 988-2014 is the Chinese automotive standard for outside door handles, both lift and pull types, fitted to M1 and N1 category vehicles. It states general requirements on manufacture, external projections, anti-corrosion treatment and the appearance of plated and painted surfaces.
Performance requirements address operating force, tensile strength, high and low temperature resistance, cyclic heat and cold, vibration, corrosion resistance of plastic and metal handles, impact resistance, the strength of embedded nuts and durability.
The matching test methods mount the handle as installed on the vehicle, with exposures such as (80 ± 2) °C, (-40 ± 2) °C and a 72 h neutral salt spray. Inspection rules, marking, packaging, transport and storage are also covered. Issued on 14 October 2014, it has applied since 1 April 2015.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this standard.
3.1 Outside handle
A component located on the outside of a vehicle door for opening the door; it is classified by form as either outer lift handles or outer pull handles.
4 Technical requirements
4.1 General requirements
4.1.1 Outside handles shall be manufactured according to the product drawings and relevant technical documents approved through the prescribed procedures; meanwhile they shall conform to the requirements of this standard.
4.1.2 Outside handles shall comply with the relevant provisions of GB 11566-2009 or GB 20182-2006.
4.1.3 The metal parts of outside handles shall be treated with anti-corrosion measures.
4.1.4 The appearance requirements for outside handles include.
a) The surface of the outside handle shall be smooth and flat, free from defects such as burrs, scratches, shrinkage marks, pits.
b) The electroplating layer of the outside handle shall be uniform, free from defects such as peeling, blistering, pitting, cracking, localized yellowing or dark spots.
c) The paint layer of the outside handle shall be uniform, free from defects such as blistering, accumulation, drips.
d) The color and texture of the outside handle surface shall be consistent with the color plates and templates approved through the prescribed procedures.
4.1.5 Outside handles shall operate without abnormal noise and function normally.
4.2 Performance requirements
4.2.9 Destructive force requirements for embedded/inserted nuts.
After a destructive force test, the base around the embedded/inserted nut shall not exhibit defects such as cracking, deformation, or loosening of the nut.
4.2.1 Operating force
Fix the outside handles according to the simulated installation state of the actual vehicle (including the installation of the handle cover). The operating force of the outside handles shall meet the requirements in Table 1.
4.2.2 Tensile strength
After the tensile strength test according to Table 2, the outside handles shall not exhibit obvious defects such as cracking, loosening, or permanent deformation; it shall not suffer from functional failure.
4.2.3 High temperature resistance
After the high temperature test, the outside handles shall be able to operate normally, functioning intact and meeting the operating force requirements specified in 4.2.1.
4.2.4 Low temperature resistance
After the low temperature test, the outside handles shall be able to operate normally, functioning intact and meeting the operating force requirements specified in 4.2.1.
4.2.5 Resistance to cyclic heat/cold change
After undergoing a cyclic heat/cold change test, the outside handle shall show no deformation or cracking; its appearance shall meet the requirements of 4.1.4 d).
4.2.6 Vibration resistance requirements
After a vibration test, the outside handle shall not exhibit any breakage or damage that affects its function.
4.2.7 Corrosion resistance requirements
4.2.7.1 After a chemical reagent test, plastic outside handles shall conform to the requirements of Table 22 in QC/T 15-1992.
4.2.7.2 After a neutral salt spray test, metal outside handles shall conform to the requirements of Table 5 in QC/T 625-1999.
4.2.8 Impact resistance requirements
After an impact resistance test, the outside handle shall not exhibit cracking or deformation that affects its function.
4.2.10 Durability requirements
The outside handle shall function normally after the durability test.
5 Test methods
5.1 General requirements inspection
5.1.1 Perform visual inspection and evaluation of the outside handle according to 4.1.4.
5.1.2 Perform inspection and evaluation of the outside handle, after pulling it from its initial working position to its maximum working position according to 4.1.5 and then releasing it.
5.2 Performance tests
5.2.1 Operating force test
Fix the outside handle in a simulated vehicle installation state; apply a force in the direction shown in Figure 1 or Figure 2; measure its magnitude. Record the maximum operating force. Perform three consecutive measurements; take the average value. After the test, it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.1.
5.2.2 Tensile strength test
Fix the outside handle in a simulated vehicle installation state; apply the tensile force specified in Table 2 at a speed of 50 mm/min and hold for 5 seconds. The point of application of testing force of the outside handle shall be in the area which is frequently touched by people opening the door. The direction of the test force and its point of application can be as shown in Figures 1 and 2.After the test, it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.2.
5.2.3 High temperature resistance test
Place the outside handle in a high-temperature chamber at (80 ± 2) °C for 0.5 h. After the test, remove the outside handle and test it within 2 min. It shall meet the requirements of 4.2.3.
5.2.4 Low temperature resistance test
Place the outside handle in a low-temperature chamber at (-40 ± 2) °C for 16 h. After the test, remove the outside handle and test it within 2 min. It shall meet the requirements of 4.2.4.
5.2.5 Cyclic heat/cold resistance test
Place the outside handle in a high and low temperature test chamber; cycle it at (80 ± 2) °C and (-40 ± 2) °C. Specific requirements shall be performed according to Category b of Table 7 in Article 5.1.4.4 of QC/T 15-1992. After the test, remove the outside handle; allow it to return to room temperature; it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.5.
5.2.6 Vibration resistance test
Fix the outside handle in a simulated vehicle installation configuration; perform the following vibration test according to the test conditions in Table 3.4 hours in up/down direction, 2 hours each in left/right and front/back directions. After the test, it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.6.
Note: The amplitude and acceleration values in the Table apply to the "up/down" direction. For the "front/back" and "left/right" directions, the amplitude and acceleration values can be divided by 2.
5.2.7 Corrosion resistance test
5.2.7.1 The chemical resistance test for plastic outside handles shall be performed according to the provisions of 5.5.3.2 in QC/T 15-1992. After the test, it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.7.1.
5.2.7.2 The neutral salt spray test for metal outside handles shall be performed according to the test method specified in GB/T 10125, for a duration of 72 hours. After the test, it shall meet the requirements of 4.2.7.2.
