QB/T 8216-2026 is the light industry standard for melamine cellular plastics for cleaning. This is a lightweight foam plastic made from melamine, with an open cellular structure, that is widely sold as a cleaning sponge. The document treats the material as a product for cleaning use and sets out the technical provisions that apply to it, so that producers and buyers can refer to a single text.

It will be used by producers of melamine foam, by manufacturers of cleaning sponges and household cleaning goods that convert or buy the material, by test laboratories and inspection bodies, and by retailers and purchasers who want an agreed technical basis for supply. The standard is voluntary, as the /T in the code indicates, and applies where a contract, a customer or another rule refers to it. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved and issued it on 13 February 2026, and it takes effect on 1 September 2026. It is a new document and does not replace an earlier edition.
