QB/T 8205-2026 sets out a method for determining 3-methoxypropane-1,2-diol in wine, using gas chromatography combined with mass spectrometry. This is an analytical technique in which the components of a wine sample are separated and then identified and measured. The document is therefore concerned with the laboratory analysis of one named substance in wine, not with the wine itself as a product.

The method will be used by testing laboratories in the wine and beverage sector, by wineries and importers who need to check their products, by inspection and food safety bodies, and by research institutes working on wine analysis. The standard is voluntary, as the /T in the code indicates, and applies where laboratories, contracts or other rules adopt it. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved and issued it on 13 February 2026, and it comes into effect on 1 September 2026. It is a new document and does not replace an earlier edition.
