QB/T 5247-2018 is the Chinese light industry test method for the durability of plastic side-release buckles, the snap buckles used on the straps of luggage, backpacks and bags and on clothing.
A buckle is clipped and released many thousands of times over the life of a product, and when its latches wear or crack the strap comes loose.
The method clamps the two halves of the buckle in a durability tester that presses the release tabs (side or top release) and pulls the buckle apart and back together horizontally at an adjustable frequency, for a specified number of cycles, after which the buckle is examined.
The standard covers the principle, the tester, the test method, the expression of results and the test report. It was issued for the first time and took effect on 1 September 2018.

This Standard was proposed by China National Light Industry Council.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Leather Industry of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 252).
The drafting organizations of this Standard: Dongguan Hengyu Instrument Co., Ltd., National Leather Products Quality Supervision and Inspection Center (Guangzhou), Huizhou Quality Metrology Supervision and Inspection Institute of Guangdong Province, China Leather and Footwear Industry Research Institute, Guangzhou Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute.

1 Scope
This Standard specifies the principle, devices, test methods, results representation and test report of the durability test for plastic buckle.
This Standard is applicable to the test of plastic buckles for case and bag, clothing.
2 Principle
Simulate the use of the specimen. Reciprocate opening-closing to the specified number of times at a certain frequency. Check the quality of the plastic buckle.
3 Devices
3.1 Plastic buckle durability testing machine
It shall include the components specified in 3.1.1 to 3.1.3.
3.1.1 The test device (see Figure 1 for the schematic diagram) consists of two sets of specimen holders on the left and right. The left specimen holder is used to secure the upper part of the buckle. It can also periodically press the positioning piece of the buckle (left and right position or upper position). The right specimen holder is used to fix the lower part of the buckle. It also makes the lower part do reciprocating forward and withdrawing motion. The left and right specimen holders cooperate with each other, so that the upper and lower parts of the buckle do horizontal reciprocating opening-closing movement, and the movement frequency is adjustable.
