NB/T 20084-2012 is the Chinese energy industry standard that sets the qualification procedure for safety-class residual heat removal pump motors used in nuclear power plants.

It gives the basic requirements of the qualification process, the methods to be used and the acceptance criteria.

The motors concerned are squirrel-cage three-phase asynchronous machines rated at 6 kV to 10 kV, installed inside the containment of a pressurized water reactor plant and required to perform their safety function in normal operation, in accident conditions and after an accident, including under seismic loading.

Qualification of motor parts and grease that are replaced at regular intervals falls outside the standard. It draws on GB 755-2008, GB/T 1032-2005, GB/T 12727-2002, GB/T 13625-1992 and GB/T 22718-2008. Issued on 6 January 2012, it has applied since 6 April 2012.
