1 Scope
This standard specifies the method of designating the models of optical instruments and of their accessories.
It applies to the designation of the models of civil optical instruments, excluding the sub-class of electro-optical instruments, hereinafter referred to as product models.
2 General
Within each class of optical instrument, every model stands for one product. Products made by different works whose specification, performance and type are the same or close to one another shall all use the same model.
3 Method of designating the product model
3.1 The product model is made up of Chinese pinyin letters and Arabic numerals.
3.2 The product model is normally made up of a first and a second group of characters; it may also be made up of the first group alone, or of three groups. The first group is capital pinyin letters; the second group is Arabic numerals; the third group is Arabic numerals followed by capital pinyin letters. The second and the third groups are separated by a hyphen.
3.2.1 Part A of the first group is a single capital pinyin letter denoting the sub-class to which the product belongs. It is the first letter of the pinyin of the characteristic character, or of a single character of similar meaning, in the name of that class of product. The codes are given in Annex A, which is normative.
3.2.2 Part B of the first group is at most two capital pinyin letters denoting the series to which the product belongs. They are the first letters of the pinyin of the characteristic characters in the name of that series. The codes are given in detail in Annex B, which is normative.
3.2.3 The second group is at most three Arabic numerals denoting the construction, the function, the specification and the like of the product.
3.2.4 In the third group, the Arabic numerals denote the serial number of the modification of the basic model of the product, and the capital pinyin letters denote a characteristic of the product.
4 Method of designating the model of a product accessory
4.1 The model of an accessory that may be sold as an independent article or that has a standard of its own, excluding optional items that are not independent of the product, is made up of two capital pinyin letters and Arabic numerals.
4.1.1 The first capital pinyin letter is F, which denotes an accessory.
