1 Scope

This part of JB/T 12088 specifies the types and the basic parameters of pipe end forming machines.

This part applies to pipe end forming machines.

2 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

2.1 pipe end former: a machine that forms the end of a metal pipe in the cold state by extruding, expanding, reducing, beading, bulging and similar operations.

2.2 cold state: the metal pipe is at ambient temperature and has not been deliberately heated or cooled.

2.3 expanding: after deformation, the outside diameter at the end of the pipe is larger than the original size of the pipe.

2.4 reducing: after deformation, the outside diameter at the end of the pipe is smaller than the original size of the pipe.

2.5 single-head: the machine has one forming head, placed at one end of the machine.

2.6 double-head: the machine has two forming heads, placed at the two ends of the machine.

2.7 multi-station: the machine has several stations on which punching head dies can be mounted.

2.8 punching head: the die used mainly to form the pipe.

2.9 punch-matrix: the outer die that holds the pipe and at the same time forms it by extrusion.

3 Types

The types of pipe end former are the single-head pipe end former and the double-head pipe end former. The single-head pipe end former is shown in Figure 1 and the double-head pipe end former in Figure 2.
