HG/T 6499-2026 sets out general requirements for designing plastic products so that they can be recycled and reclaimed. It is a basic standard in the plastics field: rather than describing one specific product, it addresses the design stage, in which the choices made by designers determine whether a plastic product can later be recovered. The English translation gives the complete text of the Chinese original.

The document is aimed at product designers and engineers, manufacturers and converters of plastic products, brand owners who set design rules for their suppliers, and organizations that assess recyclability. Its code carries the /T suffix, so it is a voluntary industry standard. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology approved it on 15 July 2026, and it takes effect on 1 February 2027. It is a new document and does not replace an earlier edition.
