Scope

GB/Z 3480.20-2025 is the English-translated version of 直齿轮和斜齿轮承载能力计算 第20部分:胶合承载能力计算 闪温法.

GB/Z 3480.20-2025 is Part 20 of the GB/T (Z) 3480 series on load capacity of spur and helical gears, covering scuffing load capacity by the flash temperature method.

This guiding technical document is an identical adoption of ISO/TS 6336-20:2022 and judges scuffing risk from the Blok contact temperature, the sum of the bulk temperature and the flash temperature along the contact path.

It gives formulas for contact and flash temperature, face unit load, bulk temperature, mean coefficient of friction by methods A, B and C, line-of-action parameters, load sharing factors for gears with and without profile modification, scuffing temperature, contact time and safety margins, with annexes on the thermo-elastic factor and optimum profile modification.

The formulas apply to strip-shaped or nearly strip-shaped Hertzian contact areas at a sufficiently high Peclet number. It was issued on 3 December 2025.

1 Scope

This document describes a method for assessing bonding risk based on the concept of Block contact temperature and provides calculation formulas.

This basic concept applies to all mechanical components with moving contact areas. The flash temperature calculation formula applies to Hertz waves that are strip-shaped or approximately strip-shaped.

Contact area and working conditions characterized by a sufficiently high Péclet number.
