1 Scope

GB/T 7727-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the general vocabulary of shipbuilding and ship operation - the hull and its structure, the propulsion and auxiliary machinery, the equipment and outfit, the performance and the trials, the classification and the survey, gathered into one reference. At 127,500 words this is the largest document in the catalogue by a wide margin. It replaces GB/T 12900-1991, a terminology thirty-four years old. In force from 1 May 2026. Issued on 31 October 2025, it has been in force since 1 May 2026, replacing GB/T 12900-1991.

This document defines ship types and classifications, ship environment, ship hydrodynamic performance, ship general design, marine materials, hull structure, and strength. Terms and definitions for intensity and vibration, ship systems, ship cabin equipment, and ship corrosion and protection. This document applies to research, design, manufacturing, teaching, management, and other applications of ships.
