GB/T 7727-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering the general vocabulary of shipbuilding and ship operation - the hull and its structure, the propulsion and auxiliary machinery, the equipment and outfit, the performance and the trials, the classification and the survey, gathered into one reference. This document defines ship types and classifications, ship environment, ship hydrodynamic performance, ship general design, marine materials, hull structure, and strength. Terms and definitions for intensity and vibration, ship systems, ship cabin equipment, and ship corrosion and protection. This document applies to research, design, manufacturing, teaching, management, and other applications of ships.

3.1 General Terminology

3.1.1 ship [ship] ship;vessel Structures that can navigate or anchor in water and are used to perform tasks such as transportation, combat, operations, scientific research, and tourism.

3.1.2 boat;craft Ships with a full load displacement of 500t and below.

3.1.3 raft A simple, lightweight water transport, work, or rescue vehicle made of some material through simple connections or inflation.

3.2 Ships classified by purpose

3.2.1 oil tanker Ships that transport bulk crude oil, refined oil products, or other petroleum cargoes.

3.2.2 container ship Ships carrying containerized cargo.

3.2.3 bulk carrier Ships that transport bulk cargo.

3.2.4 Roroship Ships that load, unload, and transport goods such as vehicles and livestock using a rolling method.

3.2.5 liquefied gas carrier Ships that carry liquefied gases such as liquefied petroleum gas and liquefied natural gas.
