1 Scope

3 Terms and Definitions

4.Principles The sample enters the high-temperature pyrolysis tube via an autosampler and is then carried by argon gas into the oxygen-enriched high-temperature combustion chamber, where organic nitrogen is oxidized to nitric oxide. (NO), Nitric oxide reacts with ozone to produce excited-state nitrogen dioxide (NO2*), which emits light when it returns to the ground state. The photons are then absorbed by the photomultiplier tube. The data is received and amplified, and the data processing system combines the signal with a standard curve to quantitatively determine the nitrogen content in the sample.

5 Reagents and Materials

5.1 Nitrogen calibration solutions.

75.0 mg/L, 100.0 mg/L. Certified standard substances for nitrogen content determination at the required concentrations can be purchased directly, or commercially available [methods/materials] can be used. Certified reference materials are diluted with isooctane to obtain a nitrogen calibration solution of the required concentration.

5.2 Argon. purity not less than 99.99%.

5.3 Reaction gas. Oxygen, with a purity of not less than 99.99%.
