3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 fuel cell Electrochemical processes that directly convert the chemical energy of externally supplied fuel and oxidant into electrical energy (direct current) and generate heat and reaction products. Device. [Source: GB/T 20042.1-2017, 2.3.2]

3.2 The effective electrochemically active surface area per unit mass of platinum in the electrode that can participate in electrochemical reactions.

Note. The unit is square meters per gram of platinum (m2/gPt).

3.3 Mass activity; MA The current delivered by platinum per unit mass of electrocatalyst on the electrode of a fuel cell at 0.9V.

Note. The unit is amperes per milligram of platinum (A/mgPt@0.9VIR-free).
