GB/T 46256-2025 is the Chinese national standard covering what a maker may put on a package that claims to be bio-based — the biobased content defined as the share of the total organic carbon that comes from living matter rather than from fossil sources, measured against a modern carbon reference, the wording of the label with the material, the product standard number and the measured value, and the graphical symbol that carries the claim. First edition, in force from 1 March 2026. Issued on 29 August 2025, it has been in force since 1 March 2026.

1 Scope
This document specifies the bio-based content of bio-based materials and products and the requirements for traceability labeling of their bio-based content.
This document applies to all types of bio-based materials and products made from them.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 39514 and the following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1 biobased content
The content of bio-based carbon in the total organic carbon of the sample.
Note. Bio-based content is expressed as a percentage of the ratio of the radioactivity of organic carbon per unit mass of sample to the radioactivity of organic carbon per unit mass of a modern carbon reference material. Represented as a fraction.
4 Traceability Identification
4.1 Text Labels
The text labeling of bio-based materials and products should include the following.
a) Material;
b) Product standard number;
c) Product Name;
d) Measured value of bio-based content.
4.2 Graphical Symbols
The graphic symbols for bio-based materials and products shall be as specified in Figure 1.
