Scope

GB/T 46180-2025 is the English-translated version of 管内电缆导体(CICC)型超导磁体电气绝缘性能测试方法.

GB/T 46180-2025 sets out how the electrical insulation of a cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) superconducting magnet is tested after manufacture and before the magnet is put into service.

It describes the DC Paschen withstand voltage test and the AC withstand voltage test, and lists the equipment needed: DC and AC hipot testers, a vacuum container, a vacuum unit, a helium source and a vacuum control system.

It also covers the test samples, the experimental steps, the processing of the data, the acceptance criteria and the content of the test report, with an informative annex on calculating the uncertainty of the current.

Magnets of similar structure and working conditions can be assessed by reference to it. It was issued on 29 August 2025 and has applied since 1 March 2026.

Foreword

This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1: Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents" Drafting.

Introduction

Cable-in-tube conductor (CICC) superconducting magnets are becoming more and more widely used in superconducting magnet devices due to their excellent structure and performance.

Among them, superconducting magnet insulation is the core of the magnet device, and the quality of magnet insulation performance is directly related to the safe operation of the magnet device.

Some large CICC superconducting magnet devices have experienced discharge accidents due to insulation failure of superconducting magnets, which has caused serious damage to the magnet devices.

Different degrees of damage, even some irreversible effects. In the future, there will be many applications of CICC superconducting magnet devices, such as magnetic confinement fusion Therefore, in order to ensure the reliability and safety of CICC superconducting magnet devices, Before the official use, important electrical insulation performance parameters are obtained during the R&D and production process to judge the insulation performance of CICC superconducting magnets.

It is necessary to check whether the insulation performance meets the design requirements.

1 Scope

This document describes the test methods for the electrical insulation performance of cable-in-conduit (CICC) type superconducting magnets, including the DC withstand voltage test of superconducting magnets. Test, AC withstand voltage test, Paschen test.

This document is applicable to the performance test and safety assessment of CICC superconducting magnets after the manufacturing process is completed and before they are officially put into use.

The performance test and safety assessment of magnets with similar structures and working conditions shall be carried out as a reference.

3 Terms and Definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

3.1 Cable-in-conduit conductor

Use cables armored in closed conduits with multiple refrigerant channels inside the conduits.

3.2 Withstand voltage test

Verify the magnet device's ability to withstand DC or AC overvoltage tests.

3.3 Maximum operating voltage; Vn

The maximum voltage that a magnet can withstand under normal operating conditions.

Note: The maximum operating voltage is in kilovolts (kV).

3.4 Maximum fault voltage; Vf

The maximum voltage that a magnet can withstand under foreseeable fault conditions.

Note: The unit of maximum fault voltage is kilovolt (kV).

3.5 Leakage current

The magnetic insulation is subjected to a current flowing through it at a high DC voltage.
