4 Principles of the Method

Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) is a spectroscopic technique for the determination of trace metal elements in aqueous solutions.

The sample solution is continuously sucked into the inductively coupled argon plasma, and the element to be measured is converted into excited gaseous atoms or ions.

When an atom or ion returns to its ground state, it emits light of a specific wavelength that is characteristic of each element. The energy emitted at the selected wavelength the intensity is proportional to the content (concentration) of the element in the sample. Therefore, by measuring the wavelength and intensity of the sample emission, the sample can be quantitatively analyzed.

For complex solid samples, appropriate acid digestion is required before analysis to reduce ICP-OES analysis errors.

The sample was digested with nitric acid, filtered and fixed to volume in an acidic medium. The lead (Pb) content in the sample solution was determined using ICP-OES.

The liquid can be diluted to an appropriate volume so that the lead (Pb) concentration meets the calibration curve range of the equipment.
